Vitter, Cassidy To Attend Energy Hearing in New Orleans

Press Release

Date: Sept. 10, 2015
Location: Metairie, LA

U.S. Senators David Vitter and Bill Cassidy, M.D. will attend a U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources Hearing: The Impacts of Federal Policies on Energy Production and Economic Growth in the Gulf in New Orleans on Tuesday, September 15, 2015.

"We in Louisiana are blessed with rich, natural resources that provide thousands of well-paying jobs and keep our electricity prices low, which is why we need to continue fighting against unnecessary red tape and political games from the Obama Administration that attempt to shut down our energy industry," said Sen. Vitter. "I'm looking forward to joining my colleague Senator Bill Cassidy and members of the House Natural Resources Committee to discuss a path toward American energy independence, starting with continued success in Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico."

"Opening the Gulf to more oil and gas development means more workers in Louisiana and across the country can have good paying energy jobs," said Dr. Cassidy. "Federal policies are holding this development back, keeping workers from these jobs. Louisiana is blessed to have the natural resources to help America be energy independent--it's time to be independent."

Sen. Vitter and Dr. Cassidy introduced the Offshore Energy and Jobs Act of 2015 to open parts of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) that are currently restricted from oil and gas exploration and development and bring greater equity in revenue sharing for the Gulf states by lifting the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) revenue sharing cap. This legislation was approved by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in July, 2015.
